Based: London or Bath office with some home working (60:40 split)

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Salary range: £30,000 - £35,000 (depending on experience)

Position overview

EJF is looking for an experienced, ambitious, talented and enthusiastic Fashion Campaigner to secure fashion industry commitments towards a more sustainable and equitable clothing sector. We seek to build solutions to the environmental impact of fabric production and reduce overall consumption levels and the ‘fast fashion’ that impact our natural world and basic human rights.

The Fashion Campaigner will research and produce campaign materials showing the environmental and social impacts of cotton and synthetic textile production and the global fashion sector, with a core focus on climate change, pesticides, water and resources misuse. The role will identify the core messages and audiences (public, private, policy) and work with the EJF comms team to present the campaign across multiple media platforms, films, meetings and events. The role will work with like-minded organisations and develop effective partnerships with for example, designers, industry and fashion colleges to generate visible support for the campaign goals and the need for industry to decarbonise supply chains by 2030 and to expand the production of organic cotton to meet growing global demand. EJF’s role will be to ‘shepherd’ consumers and industry towards the solutions to the environmental and social harm caused by fashion.

Key responsibilities

  • Research and produce campaign reports and materials (print and digital) using the best available scientific evidence and robust information gathered during investigations to show the environmental impact of fashion and textile supply chains and the alternatives to them.

  • Make recommendations and input to strategic planning and delivery of agreed campaign outcomes and brief the team on new opportunities or events needing a swift response, including potential investigations.

  • Work with the EJF comms team to create compelling reports and visual materials, news releases and digital media and to help place media releases in influential platforms.

  • Create materials to engage fashion colleges and universities and drive visibility for the campaign goals.

  • Participate in online and in-person events to help build EJF’s presence and ensure high-quality and up-to-date recommendations on opportunities to optimise our campaign efforts.

  • Identify means to secure celebrity and influencer support for the campaign, including through the fashion industry (models, agencies and photographers); and for events and partnerships to drive attention to the campaign.

  • Develop EJF’s JustFor range of ethical designer T-shirts, engaging designers, models, agencies and photographers and the opportunities to drive visibility for the campaign.

  • Present EJF’s campaign activities and goals to external meetings and events.


Essential skills and attributes:

  • Excellent research, writing and presentation skills. You have strong attention to detail and an eye for factual accuracy, you can produce superb and convincing written copy that engages diverse audiences across multiple media platforms and in-person presentations.

  • A proven networker, you are confident working alongside industry, policymakers, and NGOs towards greater sustainability in the fashion industry. You are an assured collaborator confident to devise approaches to strengthen and multiply existing initiatives whilst adding new ideas and strategies.

  • You have a creative mind, able to see communicate your research to specialist audiences as well as convince the public of the need for change.

  • Confident, outgoing and enthusiastic, you are happy to work independently to deliver outcomes on time and on budget.

  • You have experience of working productively with communications and media teams. Your role will ensure that reports, briefings, films and digital media are effective in communicating EJF’s message and campaign goals.


Desired skills and attributes:

  • Strong interest in sustainable fashion and an understanding of how the sector operates and existing initiatives and plans.

  • A demonstrable commitment to EJF's Mission and Vision along with the drive, determination and passion necessary to deliver sector-leading impact for the protection of our natural world and environmental justice.
