Join High Profile Figures in Signing our Call to Action for a Pollinator Action Plan

By EJF Staff

Twiggy, Jodie Kidd, Baroness Walmsley, Jimmy Doherty, Bill Oddie, Neal's Yard and Riverford Organic, among others, have all signed our Call to Action recommending a near term ban on neonicotinoid pesticides, Government incentives and support for the adoption of pollinator-friendly farming practices and the restoration of bee habitats.

Their support follows the successful launch of our 'Save the Bees' campaign at the Houses of Parliament at the end of March. A number of well-known public figures and companies spoke at the event giving their backing to the campaign. Ainsley Harriott, Katharine Hamnett CBE and Ian Bowles, Head of Sustainability at Premier Foods, Britain's largest branded food producer, all added their voices to the growing coalition calling for the Government to take greater action to protect our bees. The Government, and in particular the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs the Rt Hon Mr. Owen Paterson MP, face mounting pressure both at home and in Brussels to support the proposed two year ban on three types of neonicotinoid pesticides on crops including corn, sunflowers and oil seed rape. Recent publications by the EFSA and the UK Environmental Audit Committee have added further weight to the case for implementing, at the very minimum, a precautionary ban certain neonicotinoids.
