Protecting people and planet

The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is an international organisation working to protect the natural world and defend the human rights of people who depend on it. We believe that environmental destruction and human injustice are deeply interconnected — and that lasting solutions must address both together.

EJF was co-founded by Steve Trent, who serves as Chief Executive Officer, and Juliette Williams, whose leadership and vision continue to shape the organisation’s direction and values. Together, they established EJF to expose environmental abuses, support frontline communities, and drive systemic change at local, national, and international levels.

Today, EJF continues to be led by its founders alongside a dedicated Senior Management Team together providing strategic oversight, operational leadership, and deep subject-matter expertise across our programmes. Our leadership reflects the diversity of the communities we work with — culturally, ethnically, and geographically — bringing a wide range of perspectives to our mission.

With teams based around the world, EJF combines global reach with strong local presence. Our 16 country offices, staffed and lead by nationals of those countries, are found in Belgium, Brazil, Cameroon, France, Germany, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Liberia, Philippines, Senegal, Spain, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the UK.

Our staff work in close partnership with affected communities, civil society, governments, and international institutions to deliver impactful research, advocacy, and legal reform. This global network enables us to respond quickly to emerging threats, while remaining grounded in the lived realities of people on the frontlines of environmental injustice.

United by a shared commitment to justice, accountability, and sustainability, we work collectively to ensure a future where human rights are protected and the environment is defended for generations to come.
